How nice is Seagull ST19 !

Posted: under Movements.
Tags: ,

This movement has been around for a long time, but it is still a very popular movement used. We often got asked about this movement. The movement is nearly identical to the Venus 175 as parts are interchangeable. The only differences or improvements to the Venus 175 are the increased beat (the Venus had only 18000 bph vs Seagull’s 21600 vph) and an added incabloc style shock absorber.

It is a really nice movement as it has something like Genève strips and blue screws.

Let’s see some pictures:

ST1901-3 ST1901-4

ST1901-5 ST1901-6

Movement drawing:

ST19 Movt drawing

Movement information:

General:

- A mechanical chronograph with 2 registers (small seconds at 9H and 30 min counter at 3H)
- Handwound
- Diameter 31.3 mm
- 21600bph

Power reserve: 38 +/-2 hours

Accuracy acceptable at factory: +30 to -10 sec per day

In real life,  depending on individual cases, accuracy can be +15 to +5 sec/day with some samples keeping exceptionally good time at +2 to +5 sec per day.  It keeps time well if it is fully wound.

In some cases, power reserve can be up from 36 to 50 hours, if it is fully wound and properly used. The reason for this is that the mainspring is designed to potentially have a power reserve of 50+ hours, but to reach this level, the movement must be QC-ed and the whole watch must be perfectly assembled. However, as with any hand-made products, every watch  may behave differently.

Why should you care for your watch?

Posted: under Watch Care.

You have bought a nice watch and it is very beautiful. But, like anything in life, it will not be for long, unless you learn how to care for it. Whether you have an expensive or inexpensive watch you still have to learn how to care for it, if you want to make it last a long time.

First of all, if your watch is a quartz watch, never put your watch on top of electronic equipment such as a television or a computer, because this could drain the battery quickly. Whether you have a quartz or a mechanical watch, never put the surface of your watch facing downwards to prevent unwanted scratches on the watch crystal.
